Saturday Morning Musings: In Search of Quince

I have this list of fall produce that I’ve been carrying around for a couple of weeks.  There are things on the list I eat regularly like Brussels sprouts, collard greens and beets.  However, there are a few exotic fruits and vegetables I’ve promised myself to try for the first time. Like…

Quince.

I only know two things about quinces: the seeds are poisonous and when cooked the inside turns red. Oh, and I know I’m looking forward to eating my first one.

Before I started writing, I looked outside and noticed that the leaves still haven’t completely turned colors. Colored leaves are the perfect fall accessory.

The last time this happened, it snowed fairly early and just as the leaves were falling to the ground. That’s bad for a lawn.

The Columbus Day sales are in full effect. One of the most interesting is Old Navy’s $16 jacket sale. The original prices range from about $29 to $50, so they are a great bargain but they are also good for early Christmas presents. I’m going out to buy two today. And at those prices I can afford to buy matching hats, gloves and scarves as well as a few other goodies.
